Add cards to
Google Pay
1. On your mobile device, open Google
Pay.
2. Tap on your Profile Picture > Bank Accounts and Cards > Add card.
3. Enter the card number, expiry date, CVV, and the cardholder’s name and
billing address.
4. Tap Save.

2. We will contact your bank to verify your card
3. Choose how you will verify
4. You will be asked for additional authentication via OTP
5. OTP will be auto read or you can enter manually
5. Next to your new card’s payment method listing, tap Activate.
6. Enter your one-time password.
Important: You should receive this password via text message to the
phone number associated to your Google Pay account. If you don’t receive a
one-time password, verify that your contact information is correct. If your
contact information is up-to-date, contact your bank to
troubleshoot.
7. Enter your one-time password. You will see a confirmation. If you do not
see a confirmation, double check your card information and try again.
After your card is verified, you’re ready to use it
for transactions.
Note: Adding
your card to Google Pay will register your card for Tokenized card payments for
all the below use cases:
1. Tap & Pay at NFC enabled terminals
2. QR code-based payments at merchants
3. Mobile Recharges on Google Pay and Online payments on 3rd party
merchants where Google Pay is supported
In case you don’t want to register your card
for any of the use cases listed above you can always call
your bank to opt-out/deregister a particular use case for you before adding
the card.

Remove cards
from Google Pay
1. On your mobile device, open Google
Pay.
2. Tap Settings > Payment
methods.
3. Tap the card you want to remove > Remove
card.
Note: Removing
your Card from Google Pay will automatically disable all forms of tokenized
card payments for you.

Change your
default Tap & pay card
1. On your mobile device, open Google
Pay.
2. Tap Settings > Google.
3. Tap Settings for Google apps > Google Pay.
4. Follow the onscreen instructions to change your default Tap & pay
card.
Tip: As per
RBI’s directive WEF on October 1, 2020, any Indian debit or credit card that's
newly issued or has never been used for online e-commerce or contactless
payments will be blocked. If this happens, you can activate them through mobile
and internet banking. Contact your bank for further details.

1. I can't find the Add card option on Google Pay?
This
feature is currently available for Android devices only. If you are not able to
the see this option, we suggest you to update the Google Pay app to the
latest version.

3. Can I pay the bill of one credit card with another one?
No. As per
the UPI guidelines, this option isn't available.
4. What is my credit card limit on Google Pay?
There’s no
difference between your credit card limit in Google Pay and your standard
credit card limit. For more details, check with your bank.
5. Where can I pay?
You can use a credit or debit card added in Google
Pay for the following types of transactions:
1. Tap & Pay at NFC enabled payment terminals
2. Bharat QR code-based Payments at online & offline merchants
3. Bill payments and Recharges on Google Pay
4. Online Payments on Myntra, Dunzo, Yatra, Magicpin, Coolwinks,

6. How many credit cards can be added on Google Pay?
You can add
multiple credit cards on Google Pay, until the phone number you have in Google
Pay is registered with your credit card.
7. Can I add an add-on credit card on Google Pay?
You can add
an add-on credit card on Google Pay, as long as it’s from a bank supported by
Google Pay.
8. Can I receive money with a credit card on Google Pay?
No, you can
only use credit cards to send money. You can set your credit card as a primary
form of payment for transactions with merchants and billers.
9. Where will I find all the cards that I have added in Google Pay?
To check your cards added in Google Pay:
1. Open the Google Pay app.
2. At the top left, tap your Profile Picture.
3. Tap Payment methods.
10. Can I add my credit card on Google Pay without my bank account?
Yes, you
can add a credit card without adding a bank account on Google Pay. However,
credit cards can only be used for transactions with merchants and billers.
11. Can I add a card issued outside India?
Only Indian
bank accounts and credit cards can be added because Google Pay is a UPI-based
application. A credit card issued outside India can’t be added to Google Pay.
12. Are there fees for payments made through credit cards?
There
aren’t any fees for payments made through credit cards. Google Pay is a
UPI-based application. It doesn’t charge for transactions made with credit
cards that are added to Google Pay.
13. Why can't I find my card details on Google Pay?
Your device
doesn’t support Optical Character Recognition (OCR). To register with Google
Pay, you need to manually enter your credit card details.
14. Can I make NFC payments with my credit card on Google Pay?
You can make NFC payments with your credit card on
Google Pay.
- To change the default card for the
Tap & Pay method on Google Pay:
1. On your device, go to 'Settings'.
2. Scroll down to 'Google'.
3. Tap Account services.
4. Tap Google Pay.
- Opt out of Tap & pay, QR, or in-app
payments through Google Pay:
a. For assistance, contact your issuer bank or credit card issuer.
15. What amount of payment can I make without the OTP?
For
security purposes, the OTP needs to be entered for every transaction you make with
a credit card.
16. Can I add a credit card from a non-UPI bank?
You can add
a credit card from the banks available on the Google Pay list.
17. Can I use cards added on Google Pay in foreign countries?
This
depends on the Card variant that you have registered on the Google Pay app
i.e., if your Card is an international variant then you can use it at foreign
countries and if it is a domestic variant then you can use it only in India.
Please make sure that you have enabled your card for international transactions
with your issuer in order to use it for international payments.
18. Can I use cards added on Google Pay at ATM?
Currently Google Pay is not supported at ATMs.
19. I am getting the Call Bank option while adding my card instead of
SMS OTP and email OTP?
Your mobile
number and/or email ID may not be available with Bank. Please contact
your bank to register your mobile number and email id with the bank
immediately.
20. How secure is my card on Google Pay?
Google Pay
uses a process called tokenization to save your card. Tokenization is a method
of replacing your sensitive payment Card information (Card Number, Expiry Date,
CVV etc.) with a device-specific ‘Token’ which acts as a surrogate value that
is then used for processing payments instead of the sensitive card information.
Tokens are used to protect your payment information and to reduce the security
risks inherent to plastic Cards.
21. If I change phones, do I need to add the Cards all over again?
Yes, if you change your phone then all your cards
would have to be added again since Card tokens are device specific and you
would need to re-tokenize your cards on your new device.
22. I want to recycle/give away my phone but my Card are still on the
phone. What should I do?
- You should delete all your Cards one at a
time from Google Pay App.
- You should also log out of Google pay app
and uninstall the app.
23. Will my Google Pay Card information still be on my device if it is formatted/reset?
No, Formatting or resetting your device will remove
all payment Cards registered to your device.
24. Can the card be used immediately after its registration?
Yes, it can be used immediately after successful
registration.
25. When I attempt to register a Card on Google Pay, a message tells me
that it cannot accept my Card and to contact my bank. What should I do?
Please ensure that you are using a valid card from
the list above. If it still fails then it may be any of the following reasons:
1. Your card may not be eligible to participate in Google Pay. Please check
above for the participating card program.
2. Card information entered for registration is not correct.
3. Technical issues (In such cases you should try after some time).
26. My Card is greyed out in Google Pay, what does this mean?
If your
card is greyed out, then it means that your card is unsupported for the payment
you are trying to make. Please note Cards are not supported for peer payments
meaning you can only pay merchants/businesses using cards added on Google Pay.
Paying to friends/family is not supported using cards. You can always use UPI
on Google Pay.
27. Will my Card work on Google Pay if my physical Card is closed or
blocked?
No if your physical
card is blocked then even your tokenized card on Google Pay will not work.
28. Where Can I see the Google Pay card purchases made with my phone?
For online and Bharat QR transactions:
- You can view your transaction history in
the All-transactions section on Google Pay.
- You can also view the transactions in
your conversation section with the individual merchants.
Your Tap & Pay transactions will not be visible
in the Google Pay app and you can view them in the cards section on your issuer
net banking portal.
29. How can I Tap & Pay after adding my card?
- Unlock your phone: Turn on your phone
screen and unlock your phone. You do not need to open the Google Pay app.
- Enable NFC on your phone: Go to your device
settings and enable NFC on your device if not already enabled
- Tap on terminal: Now all you
need to do is Tap your phone onto the terminal in the same way as you
would tap your physical card.
- Default Card: In case you have
multiple cards added to your account your first added card will be used by
default for Tap and Pay. Incase you wish to change your default card you
can do so through Google settings on your mobile device. (Not Google Pay
settings)
- Pay at any store: You can pay at any
store that has a tap & pay enabled terminal. You should look out for
terminals with the below contactless symbol OR ask at the store
30. How will the rewards be credited If I have added only a credit card
in Google Pay?
You need to have a primary bank account added in
Google Pay to receive funds/rewards which you have earned by making a
transaction by using credit cards.
31. How do I change the default card for tap and pay method?
- On your mobile device, open Google Pay
- Tap Settings > Google.
- Tap Account services > Google Pay.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to
change your default Tap & pay card.
32. How do I opt-out for tap and pay, QR or in-app payment methods?
You can call your issuer to opt-out/de-register
your card for any of these individual use cases.
Please note that removing your Card from Google Pay
will also automatically disable all the above tokenized card payments for you.
33. Where can I find my Tap & Pay transactions on Google Pay?
You can find your Tap & Pay transactions on
your transaction history page.
1. On your mobile device, open the Google
Pay app.
2. At the bottom, tap All transactions.
34. How can I set transaction limits for my Card transactions?
You can call your respective bank to set and
modify per transaction and daily transaction limits for your card transactions.
35. How will the rewards be credited If I have added only a Credit/Debit
card in Google Pay?
You need to have a UPI linked primary bank account
added in Google Pay to receive funds/rewards which you have earned by making a
transaction through cards.
36. What to do in case I lose my device?
- Locking a device with Android Device
Manager here will deactivate
all your card tokens.
- You can also choose to Wipe out the
device in which case we will remove the tokens completely from the device
instead of de-activating them.
- You also have an option to call your
issuer bank to disable the card tokens. You would however have to call
your issuer bank to
re-enable them if you want to use tokenized card again.
37. Registering/De-registering cards for tokenized payments
You can call your issuer to
Register/De-register your card for tokenized card payments. If your card is
registered for tokenized payments then you can make the following type of
payments:
- Tap & Pay
- QR code based
- Merchant Payments on Google Pay app
- Online payments on 3rd party merchants
where Google Pay is supported
De-registering your card with the issuer for
tokenized card payments will disable all the above tokenized card payments for
you.
38. How do I get my cards dispute resolved (Bharat QR, Myntra , Mobile
Recharge, and Tap & Pay)?
a. Bharat QR
Please
contact your bank:
- If transaction has failed but card has
been charged.
- If transaction has succeeded but
fulfilment of order on merchant side has failed and merchant claims that
he has not received the funds
You can use the approval code on the transaction
detail screen to provide as reference to your bank. To get in touch with the
issuer bank, tap on the transaction in Google Pay and you will be able to see
the contact details for the issuer bank.

- If transaction was successful but order
didn't get fulfilled.
- Other issues like: Cancellation of order,
Returns of goods and service, Late delivery
b. Online Merchant Payments
Please
contact your bank:
- If transaction has failed but card has
been charged
- If transaction has succeeded but
fulfilment of order on merchant side has failed and merchant claims that
he has not received the funds
To get in touch with the issuer bank kindly tap on
the transaction in Google Pay and you will be able to see the contact details
for the issuer bank.

You can contact the merchant by using the contact
option in the overflow menu on the conversation screen.
c. BillPay and Recharge
Raise a dispute in Google Pay app. Please follow
below steps to raise a dispute:
1. Open Google Pay App.
2. In the Business section, tap on the specific Biller.
3. Tap on the specific Transaction in question
4. Tap Raise Dispute then select the reason
5. Tap Raise Dispute
Your issue will be resolved within 7 business days
from initiating a dispute.
d. Tap & Pay
Please
